WebSummit Review

14-11-2016

A MUBU esteve no WebSummit e contamos tudo!

WEB SUMMIT LISBOA 2016

WEB SUMMIT IN LOCO

Entramos no primeiro pavilhão e a energia é imediatamente contagiante!

Concordamos a 200%!

Até breve!

(English version)

WEB SUMMIT LISBOA 2016

Is there still something to say about the 2016 Web Summit in Lisbon? If you weren't there I realize why you ask the question, but who was fortunate enough to be there could confirm in first hand that this event doesn't end in itself, but rather it is the launching pad for the next step, the narrowing of personal and professional relationships that were born at this summit. So fasten your seatbelts!

WEB SUMMIT IN LOCO

Look at the map that we show you and you can see that it was a box of chocolates! Difficult was to choose between the various actions that are happening simultaneously! The 4 FIL pavilions and the Meo Arena are dedicated to the summit. The first step is accreditation, in pavilion 4 that is exclusively occupied by this purpose and the general public cloakroom, there are two smaller ones for media and speakers, next to the Meo Arena. It is also here that Media Village is located with all the facilities to work, eat something, has rest areas, and of course, an area for press conferences. In the pavilions the nests of star-ups are grouped by themes, easily identified by suspended lanes. In addition to the main stage located in the Meo Arena, there are 8 more stages. The easiest way to get the most out of the event is to complement the app info with the printed program that is available daily at the information spots. The Web Summit app not only powers and facilitates direct dialogue with all stakeholders, organizers, speakers, investors, founders of start-ups, but also allows organizing the entire program you want to do on-site, creating a custom schedule. Everything is impeccably organized!

IDEAS IN THE SHAPE OF ENERGY

We enter the first pavilion and the energy is immediately contagious! People everywhere are talking, sharing ideas, exchanging business cards, pointing to some detail on what they are seeing on their computer, tablet or phone. Don't think that because it is a web summit we see everybody clutched to their phones, none of that! People are frantically interacting with each other, we are all sharing our projects and this is absolutely exciting! Although we are all talking about ideas whose platform is digital they, like the summit, do not exhaust themselves in a handful of terabites, it is much more than that and this energy is felt in the air!

PARTNERSHIPS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE SUMMIT

You already know that we're staunch supporters that shared experiences are always richer, that when we're together we go further and obviously that this adventure couldn't be done otherwise. Our summit partner was Joana Branco from Chic Every Week (remember her from May's challenge to help Dress For Success). So we have been mixing the theme of Philanthropy and Social Good with Fashion! Some might think it's an explosive mix and I can guarantee it is, and that works flawlessly! When you see us meeting with the Farfetch manager, talking to Miroslava Duma, or trying out the new BMW I8, we are in the fashion field or maybe we have proposed solidary partnerships to all of them...

PHILANTHROPY AND SOCIAL GOOD

The stage of election in the solidary field was the "Future Societies". Here we heard Lily Cole talking about her project "Impossible", and while we were listening to her: "we want to be part of something bigger than ourselves", we reinforce the idea that nothing is impossible here. Listen!

In the "Yolo Fund" (Yolo means happiness for the Xhosa, ethnic group in South Africa) to photo sharing they associate a small donation to help in the creation of solidary projects that began in South Africa and spread around the world, focused on the eradication poverty and social justice.

"Kuorum" brings together on a platform direct communication channels for a set of world political figures with the aim of bringing decision makers closer to the general public.

We spoke with start-ups that are aimed at supporting refugees such as "Aiden", which creates a platform of employment focused on the compilation of user feedback which, after consulting these registers, helps to integrate these people into the labor market of the country that welcomed them. Or "Speak Social" that promotes the learning of the local language by the exchange of experiences, where anyone can learn or teach.

At "Give Box" they help small-scale institutions to raise funds. The founders are also surfers who go around the world to help people who they meet in their path. They told us that they have family all over the world and that sometimes they can go home. The suitcases they carry with their clothes return invariably empty and they tell "it's nice to see on the following year that the kids have grown up and continue to enjoy wearing our t-shirt!" Imagine that they found that the best way to ensure that children in a region of Thailand fed themselves would be to build a skateboard park that serves as a meeting point and thus makes it easier to monitor which children had a meal on that day, and which ones had not, yet.

CLOSE WITH GOLD KEY

We ended up with gold key hearing the actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt talking about "Hitrecord." We left there absolutely inspired! What he does has everything to do with MUBU's philosophy. Check it out, it's worth it! In this platform there is a sharing of content of various artistic branches, that as soon as they have commercial interest give return to all the persons in the process. The focus is on the clear difference in attitude when we speak of a crowd or community, of several people working at the same time, or better than that, several people working together. If it is a winning project, everyone who participated in it is paid for it. And you know more ... there are several challenges on the site for those who want to venture! The followers of MUBU are already accustomed to being challenged every month and imagine that the ones from Hitrecord are too!!! We went backstage and almost talked to him. We counted on the sympathy of Theresia Gouw who handed him our business card. Do we need to say dream partnership ???

We have to thank Paddy Cosgrave for choosing Lisbon to set up his project. Day and night, yes, at night we continued to meet new projects and people from all over the world! Volunteers who were around all the pavilions giving their support and information during the day, as well as at night, on the street to take a picture at a special location in the city, or at the bars and restaurants who were partners to the event.

We are in the middle of this energy and a friend calls me to meet us, I tell him: we are in the middle of the nests in the zone of philanthropy. He says to me, "why are you calling these nests?" I tell him: since I arrived here I thought, this are nests because there are ideas getting out of eggs (startups) everywhere! I am sure that soon we will hear about many of the start-ups that we knew here. We'll be alert!

Sonny Vu (President & CTO, Fossil Group): "Working on something with a purpose, with people you like and that like each other, is UNSTOPPABLE!"

We agree to 200%!

See you soon!
