NA PRIMEIRA FILA
Desde que entramos na vida da Dress For Success (DSF) já não saímos mais! Sempre que nos contactam, estamos presentes e na primeira fila para aplaudir este projecto de que somos fãs, não só do projecto em si, mas também de toda a equipa que tem tanto de simpática como de profissional, que encara o terceiro sector de uma forma muito dignificante e onde não podemos deixar de destacar a Teresa Durão (Presidente da Instituição em Portugal), a Carolina Melo Duarte (Fund Manager) e a Filipa Gonçalves (Coordenadora do programa PWG, Professional Women's Group).
JOY GORDON E KIM SAWYER
Universidade Europeia ao final da tarde. A temperatura amena convida a ficar a conversar no agradável jardim que não se adivinha do exterior. Chamam-nos para o auditório onde vamos assistir a uma breve palestra que antecede o cocktail que a Dress organizou a propósito da visita a Portugal da Joy Gordon (CEO da DFS Worldwide) que tivemos o prazer de conhecer e conversar um pouco sobre o impacto do projecto em Portugal. Segue-se Kim Sawyer, Embaixadora dos EUA em Portugal nessa altura e inspiradora empreendedora social. A sua popularidade ultrapassa a do marido, Robert Sherman, embaixador durante a vigência do governo de Obama. Esta brilhante advogada criou o projecto C2S (Connect to Success) com o objectivo de ajudar as mulheres a serem líderes, projecto devidamente implementado e que surtiu interesse em outras embaixadas de copiarem o modelo. Kim foi uma das oradoras do cocktail, tendo contado algumas histórias engraçadas que se passaram no seu percurso e que além de deixar uma plateia de sorriso nos lábios vão, com certeza, emponderar muitas mais mulheres.
5º ANIVERSÁRIO
Seguiu-se o Aniversário dos 5 anos da DFS (e 20 anos no EUA). Chegamos ao Hotel Corinthia onde estava tudo impecavelmente organizado. Entregam-se prémios. Revêem-se momentos chave do percurso deste projecto. Reencontram-se algumas pessoas que, como nós, estão fidelizadas à Dress. Empresas parceiras como a Deloitte Portugal, Europcar ou Benefit marcam presença reforçando o seu apoio. Conhecem-se novas caras, novos projectos, sangue novo que também quer contribuir o seu tempo e know-how para esta causa. É ainda lançado o projecto "Learning for Life" pela Diageo Portugal em parceria com a DFS, que promove a integração de jovens no mercado de trabalho através do programa de Bartending (300 horas), ao mesmo tempo que sensibiliza para um consumo responsável de bebidas alcoólicas. Nesse tom, segue-se um delicioso cocktail ao som da DJ Yen Sung par fechar mais esta noite memorável.
DIDO E ENEIAS, ENSAIO GERAL SOLIDÁRIO
Junta-se a DFS a mais 3 instituições, uma delas a Refood - agradável oportunidade de rever o Hunter, fundador do projecto - para um Ensaio Geral Solidário. Esta ópera coreografada composta por Henry Purcell e inspirada na "Eneida" de Virgílio, retrata o conflito interior de Dido (Rainha de Cartago) entre a sua responsabilidade governativa e o amor proibido pelo guerreiro troiano Eneias. O Teatro Camões foi palco não só do melhor que se faz em Portugal no campo da dança e pela mão da Companhia Nacional de Bailado, mas também do espirito verdadeiramente solidário de todos os que aceitaram o contive e apoiaram uma instituição de beneficência pela simples compra de um bilhete para o espectáculo!
AULA UNIVERSIDADE EUROPEIA
Estou a sair de uma conferência de Economia Social e liga-me a Filipa Gonçalves (Coordenadora do programa PWG, Professional Women's Group). "Gostávamos de a convidar a si e à Joana (fundadora da Chic Every Week) para darem uma aula para o PWG sobre a importância da imagem." Digo-lhe imediatamente que pode contar connosco e que confirmar com a Joana vai ser uma mera formalidade. Foi nossa parceira no desafio solidário para a Dress e desde então também é uma fiel apoiante desta instituição. Aula organizada, conteúdo estruturado e chega o grande dia. De regresso à Universidade Europeia, desta vez vamos ser nós a palestrar e a recepção é igualmente calorosa. No átrio o painel identificador encaminha-nos para a sala onde vamos passar as próximas horas com um grupo de mulheres extraordinárias. Previamente pedimos à Filipa para lhes lançar o repto de irem vestidas como para uma entrevista de trabalho. Temos uma manhã para lhes transmitirmos as ferramentas necessárias e esta plataforma de confiança é o espaço ideal para se elegerem os três melhores exemplos de Work Outfit, votação feita pelas alunas após uma divertida passagem de modelos.
Para que não haja qualquer dúvida a expert neste campo é a Joana, mas tenho a lição na ponta da língua quer pelos anos de convivência com ela (para mim uma verdadeira inspiração), quer pelo interesse em moda, quer ainda por exigências profissionais. Este último é conteúdo em que me foco, no sentido de transmitir exemplos de situações concretas, em diferentes contextos da minha vida profissional. Sou arquitecta e faço fiscalização de obra. Além de ser ainda uma área maioritariamente masculina, tão depressa estou em plena obra a analisar o assentamento de um pavimento e cor do betume, como posso ter que ir directa reunir com um cliente que tanto pode ser particular, como o presidente de administração de um banco ou a directora de um hotel, ou ainda reunir numa instituição de beneficência para a MUBU. Esta diversidade faz-se de forma elegante com alguns pequenos truques que fazem a diferença. A aula termina mais rapidamente do que todas desejaríamos mas já com encontro marcado para o jantar de Natal da DFS. FIRST ROW
Since we got into the life of Dress For Success (DSF), we aren't leaving anymore! Whenever they contact us, we're present and in the front row to applaud this project that we are fans of, not only of the project itself, but also of the whole team that is both friendly and professional, which faces the third sector in such a dignified way and where we cannot help to highlight Teresa Durão (President of the Institution in Portugal), Carolina Melo Duarte (Fund Manager) and Filipa Gonçalves (PWG Program Coordinator, Professional Women's Group).

European University in the late afternoon. The mild temperature invites us to converse in the pleasant garden that you can not guess from the outside. We're called to the auditorium where we are going to attend a brief lecture that precedes the cocktail that Dress organized apropos the visit to Portugal of Joy Gordon (CEO of DFS Worldwide) that we had the pleasure of knowing and talking a little about the impact of project in Portugal. Following is Kim Sawyer, the US Ambassador to Portugal at that time and an inspiring social entrepreneur. Her popularity surpasses her husband's, Robert Sherman, ambassador during the government of Obama. This brilliant lawyer created the C2S project (Connect to Success) with the aim of helping women to be leaders, a project properly implemented and that interested other embassies to copy the model. Kim was one of the cocktail speakers, having told some funny stories that have gone through her that not only left a smiling audience, but also, and certainly, empowered many more women.
5th ANNIVERSARY
It followed the DFS 5th anniversary (and 20 years in the US). We arrived at the Hotel Corinthia where everything was impeccably organized. Awards are deliverd. Key moments in the course of this project are revisited. We meet again some people who, like us, are loyal to Dress. Partner companies like Deloitte Portugal, Europcar or Benefit are present reinforcing their support. There are new faces, new projects, new blood that also wants to contribute their time and know-how to this cause. The "Learning for Life" project by Diageo Portugal in partnership with DFS is launched, it promotes the integration of young people into the work market through the Bartending program (300 hours), while raising awareness about responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages. In this tone, a delicious cocktail follows to the sound of the DJ Yen Sung to close another memorable night.
DIDO AND ENEIAS, SOLIDARY GENERAL REHEARSAL
DFS together with three other institutions, one of which Refood - a nice opportunity to review Hunter, the founder of the project - for a Solidary General Rehearsal. This choreographed opera composed by Henry Purcell and inspired by Virgil's "Aeneid" portrays the inner conflict of Dido (Queen of Carthage) between her governmental responsibility and the forbidden love by the Trojan warrior Eneias. The Camões Theater was the stage not only of the best that is done in Portugal in the field of dance by the hand of the National Ballet Company, but also of the truly solidary spirit of all those who accepted and supported a beneficence instituition for the simple purchase of a ticket for the show!
EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY CLASS
I'm leaving a Social Economy conference when Filipa Gonçalves (PWG Program Coordinator, Professional Women's Group) calls me. "We would like to invite you and Joana (founder of Chic Every Week) to give a lecture to the PWG about the importance of the image." I tell her immediately that she can count on us and that confirming with Joana is going to be a mere formality . She was our partner in the solidary challenge for Dress and since then she's also a loyal supporter of this institution. Class organized, content structured and the big day arrives. Upon returning to the European University, this time we'll be speaking and the reception is equally warm. In the lobby the panel indicates the direction to the room where we will spend the next few hours with a group of extraordinary women. Previously, we asked Filipa to challenge them to dress like they were for a job interview. We have one morning to give them the tools they need and this platform of confidence is the ideal space to choose the three best examples of Work Outfit, a vote made by the attendees after a fun passage of models.
So that there's no doubt the expert in this field is Joana, but I have a well-learned lesson on being her friend for many years (her style is for me a true inspiration), either by interest in fashion or still by professional requirements. I've focused in this last content, in the sense of transmitting examples of concrete situations, in different contexts of my professional life. I'm an architect and I'm doing construction management and supervision. In addition to being still a predominantly male area, in one minute I'm in the midst of work on analyzing the setting of a pavement and color of the bitumen, as in the next I may have to go directly to meet with a customer who may be private, as the chairman of a bank or the director of a hotel, or even having a meeting in a beneficence instituion for MUBU. This diversity is done in an elegant way with some little tricks that make the difference. The class ends faster than all of us would wish but already with a scheduled appointment to the DFS Christmas dinner.
